Emeritus Professor of organic chemistry Dr. Mustafa M. El-Abadelah was born in Khan Younis in southern Gaza in 1934, and earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Cairo University, Egypt, in 1956, and a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from London University, UK, in 1968.
Prof. El-Abadelah joined the University of Jordan in 1969 as an assistant professor where he was promoted to associate professor in 1973 and to full professor in 1977. He became Emeritus Professor in 2011.
Throughout his career, Prof. El-Abadelah held several academic and administrative positions at UJ and other universities, including Chairman of the Chemistry Department at UJ’s Faculty of Science twice (1979 – 1980) and (1987 – 1988).
Prof. El-Abadelah is a highly published scientist with over 100 peer reviewed research articles and books, his research interests dwell in the area of the Synthesis of Heterocycles.
Since 1972, Prof. El-Abadelah has supervised tens of Master’s and PhD Research Projects in Organic Chemistry.
Prof. El-Abadelah took part in many international conferences including the International Conference on Circular Dichroism (CD) and Chirality, European Symposium in Organic Chemistry (ESOC-14), 2005, in Finland, and the 11th Eurasia Conference in Chemical Sciences (EuAsC2S 11), 2010, in Jordan
