Prof. Walid Maani was Born in 1946, Karak, he studied at Al Hussein College, Amman from September 1960 -- June 1963 and at Alexandria Medical School, Alexandria University from September 1963 -- June 1969. He earned a Diploma of General Surgery in October 1970.
In 1975 he earned the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons Of Edinburgh.
Prof. Maani trained in several renowned institutions in Egypt and England including Alexandria University Hospital and Ministry of Health Hospitals, North Staffordshire Royal Infirmary Stoke-on-Trent, Leeds General Infirmary, Brook General Hospital, Leicester General Hospital and Atkinson Morley's Hospital .
Prof. Maani was appointed in the University of Jordan in 1978 and held several academic and administrative positions in the university of Jordan such as Professor of Neurosurgery Associate, Professor of Anatomy, the head of Neurosurgery Department, the head of Neurosurgery, the head of Accident and Emergency Department, the head of Special Surgery Department at the university of Jordan Hospital.
In addition, He was the Chairman of Graduate Department for Medical and Health Sciences, the deputy Dean of the faculty of Medicine, the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, the Dean of Research, the Vice President for administrative affairs at the university of Jordan.
In 1998 he was appointed as the president of the University of Jordan until 2002.
Prof. Maani has significant memberships in many boards, scientific committees as well as scientific and medical institutions nationally, regionally and internationally.
Professor Maani was Minister of Health in 2003, Minister of Higher Education in 2002, 2009 and 2010, he was also Minister of Education in 2009 and a Member of the ٍHouse of Senators in 2008.
