Prof. Wasileh Petro
 
Professor of Nursing at UJ’s Community Health Nursing Department, Dr. Petro earned her B.Sc. from the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Jordan in 1978, an M.Sc. from Boston University’s School of Nursing, USA, in 1982, and a PhD from Johns Hopkins University’s School of Hygiene and Public Health, Department of Maternal and Child Health at Baltimore, Maryland, USA, in 1978.

Professor Petro held numerous administrative positions at UJ  including Assistant Dean of Nursing, 1987-1989, Vice Dean of Nursing and Chairperson of the Community Health Department, 1989 - 1991, Director of Nursing at the Jordan University Hospital, 1991-1992, and Dean of Nursing, 2003-2007.
 
 
Starting from “Zero Point”, Professor Petro was assigned to found the School of Nursing at the Hashemite University, Zarka – Jordan, during the period 1999-2003 when she was on leave from the University of Jordan. She assumed the position of Director of Nursing Research at the University of Nicosia, Cyprus, 2003 – 2007, and was appointed Dean of Nursing at Al-Ahliyya Amman University, 2009- 2010.
She holds an appointment as an Honorary Visiting Professor in the Faculty of Nursing at Glasgow Caledonian University (UK), and an Honorary Visiting Professor in the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at University of Surrey, UK.
 
 
Professor Petro is a highly accomplished scholar with numerous published research articles in international peer reviewed journals, and has supervised the research work of tens of graduate students.  She has also received several scientific research grants and served as a consultant for several international organizations on issues of “Quality and its Management in Health Services”.
 
 
She is a member of the Editorial Board of several peer reviewed journals as the Journal of Transcultural Nursing, USA; International Nursing Review, ICN, Geneva; the Scientific Journal for Nursing and Midwives Syndicate, Jordan; and the DIRASAT, Medical & Biological Sciences Journal of the Deanship of Graduate Studies, the University of Jordan.
 

Throughout her profession, Prof. Petro received several awards including Prince El Hassan Bin Talal Recognition Award (1998), Queen Rania Al-Abdullah Recognition Award (2002), and Princes Basma Bint Tala Recognition Award (2007).
