A renowned writer, poet, and politician, and a Professor at the Department of Arabic Language and Literature at The University of Jordan, Prof. Khaled Al-Karaki earned his BA and MA degrees in Arabic Language and Literature from The University of Jordan in 1969 and 1977, respectively, and a PhD in Oriental Studies from Cambridge University, UK, in 1980.
Professor Al-Karaki held numerous key official positions including Chief of the Royal Hashemite Court twice (1992-1993 and 2011), Minister of Culture and Youth; Minister of Culture and Information; Minister of Culture and Higher Education in successive cabinets (1989-1991), Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Information (1995-1996), Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education (2010-2011), Advisor to His Majesty Late King Hussein twice (1991-1992 and 1993-1995), and Senator in the Upper House of the Jordanian Parliament (2011-2013).
Along with teaching responsibilities throughout his academic career, Professor Al-Karaki held several key academic administrative positions including President of Jerash Private University (2002-2006), and President of The University of Jordan (2007-2010). He also served as President of the Jordanian Writers' Association (1985-1990), Chairman of Board of Directors of Jordan Press Foundation (Al-Rai Newspaper) twice (2000-2002).
Professor Al-Karaki is also a highly accomplished scholar with 20 published books and numerous articles. He is also the recipient of the Order of Al Hussein for Distinguished Contributions of the First Class.
