Prof. Abdalla Awidi

Director of the Cell Therapy Center and Professor of Medicine, Hematology and Oncology at UJ, Prof. Abdalla Awidi holds a Diploma in Medicine and Surgery, University of Valencia, 1973 and Medical Education Diploma, WHO, 1980. He is an FRCP (ED) and FRCP (GLAS) since 1987, and FRCP (LOND) since 1992. 

Throughout his career, Prof. Awidi held several key academic and administrative positions including president of Balqa Applied University, 2001, President of the Applied Science University 1994, Medical Director of Hamad Medical Corporation, Qatar, 1991-1992 and 1998-2001, Chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine at the Jordan University Hospital (JUH), 1985-1990, Head of the Bone Marrow Transplantation Team at JUH, 1987-1990, Consultant Physician and Clinical Hematologist/Oncologist at JUH 1980-1990 and is currently Head of Coagulation Research Laboratory at UJ, since 2001.

Prof. Awidi was also House Officer of Medicine at Wigan and Leigh Hospital, 1974, House Officer of Surgery at Yarmouth Hospital, 1975, Senior House Officer of Medicine at Wigan and Leigh Hospital, Registrar in Medicine at Wigan and Leigh Hospital, 1976-1977, Registrar in Hematology/Oncology, Manchester University Hospital (MRI), 1978-1980, Visiting Assistant Professor in Hemostasis and Thrombosis at Prof. I.M. Nilsson’s Laboratory at Malmo General Hospital, Lund University, Sweden, 1981, Visiting Assistant Professor in Hemostasis and Thrombosis at Professor J.P. Caen’s Laboratory, University of Paris, 1982, Visiting Assistant Professor of Medicine and Hematology, Cornell University Medical Center, U.S.A. 1983-1984, Visiting Associate Professor of Medicine and Hematology/Bone Marrow Transplantation, The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, U.S.A., 1985.

Prof. Awidi is a published scientist and has won the Abdul Hameed Shuman Award for Young Arab Scientists in 1986, and the Jordanian Medical Association Award for distinguished medical accomplishments in 1988.
